ECM8. 00. 0 measurement mic? GOOD NEWS! I deleted my previous content in this post because Behringer customer service has already sent me the calibration file via email. Actually, they were lightning- fast on it, replying within 1. How I went about it: I found the current email address for Behringer customer service, then requested the calibration file. I am not posting the email address here, in case Behringer changes it. Express written permission of BEHRINGER Spezielle Studiotechnik GmbH. You can find it by navigating to Support.)In my email, I included the Serial Number and Date Code from the sticker on my mic. Behringer sent me the generic calibration file, which is better than nothing! The generic specs include: frequency, relative d. B and phase. I am waiting for a reply regarding whether a unique calibration file is available for each mic. Since the ECM8. 00. I will not complain if no unique specs are available. The generic specs might be enough to help my particular situation. I plan to post an update regarding what they say about unique specs. I am considering to post a link to the generic specs here in the forum.. But be aware that dfferent date codes or serial number lots might have slightly different specs. I don't know yet (I'm still in conversation with Behringer). Forum peops, do you want the generic specs that were sent to me? Gearslutz Pro Audio Community. Comparing the calibration file with the wide variances I see in the tests of those 1. Picture (just one example) at 1. K - the cal file indicates a correction of 3. B - which would work with 1 of the 1. B range - a lot of them in the 5- 7. B range - and one is +1. B - adding 3. 4d. B to any of those would be real bad in terms of understanding what's really going on in your room. I would just live with the mic and forget the cor file. Just to be clear - I would never use a calibration file that was not generated for the mic in question. If you want a cal file - pay the money and have your mic calibrated. Note that I am not suggesting this is necessary for a mic like this used for a home studio - what I am saying is that the odds are you will be worse off with a cal file from a different mic. I do not believe calibrating a mic (in the case of Joe's home studio) is really necessary.

The Encyclopaedia of Chess Openings (ECO) classifies the King's Indian Defence under the codes E6. E9. 9. In the most critical lines of the King's Indian, White erects an imposing pawn center with Nc. Black stakes out his own claim to the center with the Benoni- style .. If White resolves the central pawn tension with d. Black follows with either .. Meanwhile, White attempts to expand on the opposite wing. The resulting unbalanced positions offer scope for both sides to play for a win. Overview[edit]The King's Indian is a hypermodern opening, where Black deliberately allows White control of the centre with his pawns, with the view to subsequently challenge it with the moves .. Until the mid- 1. Soviet players in particular—Alexander Konstantinopolsky, Isaac Boleslavsky, and David Bronstein—helped to make the defence much more respected and popular. It is a dynamic opening, exceptionally complex, and a favourite of former world champions. Garry Kasparov, Bobby Fischer, and Mikhail Tal, with prominent grandmasters. Viktor Korchnoi, Miguel Najdorf, Efim Geller, John Nunn, Svetozar Gligorić, Wolfgang Uhlmann, and Ilya Smirin having also contributed much to the theory and practice of this opening. In the early 2. 00. Vladimir Kramnik scored excellent results against it, so much so that even Kasparov gave up the opening after relentless losses to Kramnik. However, Kramnik himself won a fine game on the black side of the KID in 2. Hikaru Nakamura, Teimour Radjabov and Ding Liren all play the opening. Variations[edit]The main variations of the King's Indian are: 3. Nc. 3 Bg. 7 4. e. Classical Variation: 5. Nf. 3 0- 0 6. Be. Classical Variation. White to move. The Classical Variation is 3. Nc. 3 Bg. 7 4. e. Nf. 3 0- 0 6. Be. The Main Line or Mar del Plata Variation continues 7. Nc. 6 8. d. 5 Ne. Now White has a wide variety of moves, including 9. Ne. 1, and 9. Nd. Typically, White will try to attack on the queenside by preparing the pawn break c. Black will attack on the kingside by transferring his knight from f. White's queenside play with c. Korchnoi in the 1. Radjabov. 7. 0- 0 Nbd. Old Main Line, and is playable, though less common nowadays than 7.. Nc. 6. 7. 0- 0 exd. Nxd. 4 is also possible, although White's extra space usually is of greater value than Black's counterplay against White's centre. Made popular in the mid- 1. Russian Grandmaster Igor Glek, new ideas were found for White yet some of the best lines for White were later refuted. White still has an advantage in most lines. Na. 6 has seen some popularity recently. The purpose of this awkward- looking move is to move the knight to c. Black should play .. Qe. 8. Play commonly continues 8. Be. 3 Ng. 4 9. Bg. Qe. 8! but White has also tried. Qxd. 8 Rxd. 8 with even chances; 8. Nc. 5 9. Qc. 2 a. Petrosian System (see below); 8. Bg. 5 h. 6 9. Bh. Qe. 8 1. 0. Bxf. 6 Bxf. Black. 7. d. 5 is the Petrosian System, so named for the 1. Tigran Petrosian, who often essayed the line in the 1. Vladimir Kramnik playing this variation extensively in the 1. The plans for both sides are roughly the same as in the main variation. After 7.. a. 5 White plays 8. Bg. 5 to pin the knight, making it harder for Black to achieve the f. In the early days of the system, Black would drive the bishop back with .. Na. 6, .. Qe. 8 and .. Bd. 7, making White's c. Joe Gallagher[2] has recommended the flexible 7.. Na. 6 which has similar ideas to 7.. Be. 3 is often known as the Gligoric System, after the World Championship Candidate. Svetozar Gligorić, who has contributed much to King's Indian theory and practice with both colours. More recently, other strong players such as Korchnoi, Anatoly Karpov, and Kasparov have played this line. The main idea behind this move is to avoid the theoretical lines that arise after 7. Nc. 6. This move allows White to maintain, for the moment, the tension in the centre. If Black plays mechanically with 7.. Nc. 6, 8. d. 5 Ne. Nd. 2! is a favourable setup, so Black most often responds by crossing his opponent's plans with 7.. Ng. 4 8. Bg. 5 f. Bh. 4 Nc. 6, but other moves are also seen, such as. Na. 6 8. 0- 0 transposing into the modern. John Nunn. The main line runs 8. Ng. 4 9. Bc. 1 Nc. Ne. 7 1. 1. Ne. 1 f. Bxg. 4 fxg. 4. In this subvariation, Black's kingside play is of a different type than normal KID lines, as it lacks the standard pawn breaks, so he will now play g. Ng. 6–f. 4, often investing material in a piece attack in the f- file against the white king, while White plays for the usual queenside breakthrough with c. For example, 8. Nxd. Re. 8 9. f. 3 c. 6 1. Qd. 2 (1. 0. Bf. 2!?) 1. Nc. 6 1. 3. c. 5 and 1. Rxe. 3!? (which was first seen in game 1. World Chess Championship between Kasparov and Karpov). In the Exchange Variation (7. Qxd. 8 Rxd. 8), White exchanges queens and is content to play for a small, safe advantage in the relatively quiet positions which will ensue in this queenless middlegame. The line is often played by White players hoping for an early draw, but there is still a lot of play left in the position. White tries to exploit d. Nf. 3–d. 2–c. 4–d. Black will play to control the hole on d. In practice, it is easier to exploit d. If Black is able to play .. Nd. 4, he will often have at least an equal position, even when this involves the sacrifice of a pawn to eliminate White's dark- squared bishop. Sämisch Variation: 5. The Sämisch Variation is 3. Nc. 3 Bg. 7 4. e. It is named after Friedrich Sämisch, who developed the system in the 1. This often leads to very sharp play with the players castling on opposite wings and attacking each other's kings, as in the Bagirov–Gufeld game given below, though it may also give rise to heavyweight positional struggles. Black has a variety of pawn breaks, such as .. This can transpose to the Modern Benoni after 5.. Bg. 5 c. 5 7. d. 5 e. World champions Mikhail Botvinnik, Mikhail Tal, Tigran Petrosian, Boris Spassky, Anatoly Karpov and Garry Kasparov have all played this variation. This line defends the e. White to begin an attack kingside with Be. Qd. 2, Bh. 6, g. 2–g. It allows placement of a bishop on e. Ng. 4; however, its drawback is that it deprives the knight on g. Black can strike for the centre as previously mentioned or delay with 6.. Nc. 6, 7.. a. 6 and 8.. Rb. 8 so that Black can play .. The Sämisch Gambit. Black has sacrificed a pawn for temporary advantages. The Classical Defence to the Sämisch is 5.. Be. 3 e. 5, when White has a choice between closing the centre with 7. Nge. 2. Kasparov was a major proponent of this defence.[3]The Sämisch Gambit arises after 5.. Be. 3 c. 5. This is a pawn sacrifice, and was once considered dubious. As Black's play has been worked out, this evaluation has changed, and the gambit now enjoys a good reputation. A practical drawback, however, is that a well- prepared but unambitious White player can often enter lines leading to a forced draw.[3] The line where White accepts the gambit runs 5.. Be. 3 c. 5 7. dxc. Qxd. 8 (8. e. 5 Nfd. Rxd. 8 9. Bxc. 5 Nc. Black's activity is believed to give sufficient compensation. White's most frequent play is to decline the gambit, and instead play 7. Nge. 2, and head for Benoni type positions after a d. Be. 3 Nc. 6 7. Nge. Qd. 2 Rb. 8 leads to the Panno Variation of the Sämisch. Black prepares to respond appropriately depending on White's choice of plan. If White plays 0- 0- 0 and goes for a kingside attack, then 7.. White's castled position. If instead White plays more cautiously, then Black challenges White's centre with .. Averbakh Variation: 5. Be. 2 0- 0 6. Bg. The Averbakh Variation is 3. Nc. 3 Bg. 7 4. e. Be. 2 0- 0 6. Bg. Yuri Averbakh), which prevents the immediate 6.. Black often repels the bishop with .. White has various ways to develop, such as Qd. Nf. 3, f. 4 or even h. However, Black obtains good play against all of these development schemes. The old main line in this begins with 6.. However, 6.. Nbd. Na. 6 (Judit Polgár's move) are also seen. It is possible that the Averbakh System (of the Modern Defense) can transition to the Averbakh Variation of the King's Indian Defence. Four Pawns Attack: 5. The Four Pawns Attack continues with 3. Nc. 3 Bg. 7 4. e. Nf. 3. This is the most aggressive method for White, and was often seen in the 1. With his fifth move, White erects a massive centre at the price of falling behind in development. If Black can open the position, White may well find himself overextended. From this 6.. c. 5 is the main line. Be. 2 exd. 5 9. cxd. Bg. 4 has been a solid line for Black. Re. 8 can be justified with solid play. Na. 6 is known as the Modern Variation. This is a move anticipating playing .. Nc. 5 with counterplay. Has worked with success of neutral moves made from White, such as 7. Bd. 3. On the other hand, 7. Fianchetto Variation: 3. Nf. 3 Bg. 7 4. g. The Fianchetto Variation 1. Nf. 6 2. c. 4 g. 6 3. Nf. 3 Bg. 7 4. g. Bg. 2 d. 6 6. 0- 0, is named for White's development of his light- squared bishop to g. Korchnoi once its most notable practitioner. This method of development is on completely different lines than other King's Indian variations. Here, Black's normal plan of attack can hardly succeed, as White's kingside is more solidly defended than in most KID variations. The most common responses are: 6.. Nbd. 7 with 8.. exd. Black intends to claim the centre with .. Nc. 3 e. 5 8. e. 4 exd. Nxd. 4 Re. 8 1. 0. Preparation has been made for 1. Rb. 8, with .. c. Ne. 5 first. This is known as the Gallagher Variation of the Fianchetto Variation. Nc. 6 7. Nc. 3 a. Na. 5. This variation goes against ancient dogma which states that knights are not well placed on the rim; however, extra pressure is brought to bear against the Achilles Heel of the fianchetto lines—the weakness at c. Ruy Lopez - Wikipedia. The Ruy Lopez (; Spanish pronunciation: [ˈruj ˈlopeθ/ˈlopes]), also called the Spanish Opening or Spanish Game, is a chess opening characterised by the moves: 1. Nf. 3Nc. 63. Bb. 5The Ruy Lopez is named after 1. Spanish bishop Ruy López de Segura. It is one of the most popular openings, with such a vast number of variations that in the Encyclopaedia of Chess Openings (ECO) all codes from C6. C9. 9 are assigned to them. History[edit]The opening is named after the 1. Spanish bishop Ruy López de Segura, who made a systematic study of this and other openings in the 1. Libro del Ajedrez, written in 1. Although it bears his name, this particular opening was included in the Göttingen manuscript, which dates from c. However, popular use of the Ruy Lopez opening did not develop until the mid- 1. Carl Jaenisch, a Russian theoretician, "rediscovered" its potential. The opening remains the most commonly used amongst the open games in master play; it has been adopted by almost all players during their careers, many of whom have played it with both colours. Due to the difficulty for Black in achieving equality,[1] a common nickname for the opening is "The Spanish Torture". In a Chess Notes feature article, Edward Winter provided a collection of historical analytical articles (1. Berlin Defence.[2]At the most basic level, White's third move attacks the knight which defends the e. White's apparent threat to win Black's e- pawn with 4. Bxc. 6 dxc. 6 5. Nxe. Black can respond with 5.. Qd. 4, forking the knight and e. White's 3. Bb. 5 is still a good move; it develops a piece, prepares castling, and sets up a potential pin against Black's king. However, since White's third move carries no immediate threat, Black can respond in a wide variety of ways.[citation needed]Traditionally, White's objective in playing the Ruy Lopez is to spoil Black's pawn structure; either way Black recaptures following the exchange on c. White does not always exchange bishop for knight on c. Exchange Variation (ECO C6. C6. 9). The theory of the Ruy Lopez is the most extensively developed of all open games, with some lines having been analysed well beyond move thirty. At nearly every move there are many reasonable alternatives, and most have been deeply explored. It is convenient to divide the possibilities into two groups based on whether or not Black responds with (3.. Morphy Defence after Paul Morphy, although he was not the originator of the line.[4] The variations with Black moves other than 3.. Morphy Defence lines are more commonly played. Morphy Defence: 3.. By far the most commonly played third move for Black is the Morphy Defence, 3.. The main point of 3.. Ba. 4, Black will have the possibility of breaking a future pin on his queen knight by playing .. White must take some care not to fall into the Noah's Ark Trap, in which Black traps White's king bishop on the b. Ercole del Rio, in his 1. Bxc. 6 [edit]Exchange Variation after 4.. In the Exchange Variation, 4. Bxc. 6, (ECO C6. 8–C6. White damages Black's pawn structure, giving him a ready- made long- term plan of playing d. Qxd. 4, followed by exchanging all the pieces and winning the pure pawn ending. Black gains good compensation, however, in the form of the bishop pair, and the variation is not considered White's most ambitious, though former world champions Emanuel Lasker and Bobby Fischer employed it with success. After 4. Bxc. 6, Black almost always responds 4.. It is not usually played due to the reply 5. Qxd. 4 and White is in control of the centre. After 4.. dxc. 6, the obvious 5. Nxe. 5? is weak, since 5.. Qd. 4! 6. Nf. 3 Qxe. Qe. 2 Qxe. 2+ leaves White with no compensation for Black's bishop pair. There are two principal lines after 4. Bxc. 6 dxc. 6. In the late 1. Lasker had great success with 5. Qxd. 4 Qxd. 4 7. Nxd. Since then, better defences for Black have been developed, and this line is considered to slightly favour Black. Jon Jacobs wrote in the July 2. Chess Life (p. 2. A database search (limited to games longer than 2. FIDE 2. 30. 0+) reveals the position after 7. Nxd. 4 was reached 2. White's results were abysmal: +0−7=1. Max Euwe gives the pure pawn ending in this position as a win for White.[7]The flexible 5. Barendregt Variation, but it was Fischer who developed it into a serious weapon in the 1. Unlike 5. d. 4, it forces Black to defend his e- pawn, which he usually does with 5.. Bg. 4, 5.. Qd. 6 (the sharpest line, preparing queenside castling), 5.. Qe. 7, 5.. Qf. 6 or 5.. Bd. 6. X Falcon 9 rocket will launch some experiments—and lots of ice cream—up to astronauts aboard the International Space Station (ISS). Honestly, the flavor selection is not too shabby. Today’s delivery of tasty treats should not be confused with The Cosmic Ray Energetics and Mass (CREAM) experiment—or ISS CREAM—an iteration of which will also be ferried up into Low Earth Orbit today. ISS CREAM is kind of like a balloon that measures cosmic rays in space, far above the interference of Earth’s atmosphere. Its cute name might also have something to do with today’s special delivery, of actual ice cream.“There will be chocolate, vanilla and birthday cake flavored ice cream heading to the International Space Station on today’s launch, as well as ice cream candy bars,” Kathryn Hambleton, Public Affairs Officer at NASA Headquarters, told Gizmodo. The ice cream] is frozen. It will be going up in three freezers that will come back filled with research when Dragon returns.”Space. X’s ice cream run—whose launch window opens at 1. ET (1. 63. 1 GMT) from Kennedy Space Center in Florida—will include roughly 6,4. Dragon spacecraft. This includes 2. 0 mice, which will be used to study the impacts of long duration spaceflight on biology. It’s the rocket company’s 1. ISS, and between ice cream, mice, and an attempted re- landing of the Falcon 9 rocket’s first stage booster, it should be one hell of a launch. You can watch the live stream below. Background: Since I can neither afford the luxury of an Apple OS or stand any longer the bloated and slow Windows I thought it was about time to try out Linux on a computer at home. Well I have to say that once I got the installation complete I was most pleased with myself, and very happy with my zippy new computer. What you will need– Your Ubuntu installation CD– Your windows drivers/hardware drivers cd. It is just fabulous the way that Ubuntu automatically detects all hardware and everything just works automatically – that is – everything except my wireless USB and thus my connection to the internet. My wife and I both have a deep seated hate of wires and that combined with a quirky house means that wireless is the only way to go for us. Unfortunately Ubuntu simply did not see my wireless adapter, and there appeared to be no way of actually installing it. In a flustered state I managed to get our other computer online and tried to look up how to get ubuntu to work with a wireless usb and found a wealth of articles, and forum posts, most of which seemed to involve going to the command line and writing an essay in code. Of course everything I tried threw errors and exceptions and to this day I have no idea of how to login as ‘root’. But having looked a little further I found out the solution was fairly simple, so I thought I would write a post on it in the hope it will save somebody a lot of time. It might not work for everybody but could be a good place to start before you get your handy dirty in the Terminal window. The solution. You will need to get a few programs running to get your adater working. One is a program which I think controls and ‘helps’ wireless networking run and the second is a graphical user interface which converses with the first program without the user having to use the command line. Follow these steps. Go to: System > Administration > Synaptic Package Manager. Search there for: ndiswrapper- utils, ndiswrapper- common and ndisgtk. If nothing is found then Insert your Ubuntu CDYou will now need to add the CD to your ‘Souces’. In administration ‘Manage Sources’ and add your cd/dvd. Now in Synaptic Package Manager click on “Source” (This means the Ubuntu Source CD I think!?)Again search for ndiswrapper- utils, ndiswrapper- common and ndisgtk. You should now be able to tick these items and save the Package Manager, which will then install the three programs. Go to System > Administration > Windows Wireless devices (This is the new program you’ve just installed ndiskgt thanks to Sam Pohlenz)Now Click on Insert New Driver. Insert your cd which came with your wireless device. Browse to the cd and look for the . Select the . inf file. Note: Normally these will be in a config forlder or an inf folder and will probably be oranised by Windows Operating System. I chose Vista driver as this was most recent but with one adapter this didn’t work. I think it will probably be a case of ‘if at first you don’t succeed’Install. Voila, you should see an icon appear next to your volume control which is your Network Manager. This will allow you to select a Network, and tweak your wireless settings. If you are at this stage and still Ubuntu des not see your wireless USB it is time to either try another driver, or look for alternative solutions. I could now see the wireless Networks but still could not connect? Grr, I was trying to connect to a Secured network using the default WPA/WPA2 connection which worked fine under Windows. I found that by disabling Security on the actual Router (which makes the network unsecure and no passsword is required) I was able to connect. This can be done bycreating a wired ethernet connection to your router. Logging into your router in your browser (mine was at http: //1. Changing the wireless security option to ‘Disabled’This is highly unsatisfactory since it means that not only can anyone use my network, but also everything I do online can potentially be detected and intercepted and that in theory someone listening in could get my credit card details. I spent a day messing around with the WPA settings and WEP and others but have not yet managed to connect using these protocols. So at the moment I have just decided to risk it. I will however be looking for a solution to this asap. If anyone has any suggestions I’d love to know. That said I am now connected wirelessly and writing this article on my shiny new Ubuntu OS – lifes good! Earnings: Company Earnings Calendar - Yahoo Finance.
